TABRIZ
The city of Tabriz is located 600 kilometers west of Tehran and one of the largest cities in Iran, but also the capital in the province of Azerbajdzjan. The construction of carpets today is great and the quality ranges from excellent handicrafts to simple and cheap bazaar property. A good Tabriz has short and coarse hair. The designs can consist of a centrally placed pendant surrounded by arabesques, weeping and cypresses. Another popular motif is the four seasons that describe the life of the Persian farmer during spring, summer, autumn and winter. Ancient palaces and ruins are often found on its carpets. In the corners it is sometimes possible to see the four great Persian poets: Sadi, Hafez, and Firdousi Omar Khayam. The term Raj in relation to the name of Tabriz Carpets refers to the number of knots in a row of 70 mm. The nominal value of 40 Raj refers to carpets with 400 - 500,000 knots / m2, 50 Raj with carpets, with about 500 to 600,000 knots / m2, 60 Raj on carpets with 600 - 800,000 knots / m2 and 70 Raj on carpets with about 800 to 1,000. 000 knots / m2. The latter is extremely rare in today's market.
