PAKISTAN CARPETS

In 1947 Pakistan became independent from India and today it is in the top five carpet producing countries.
The carpets woven in Pakistan by home crafts are influenced, as a reference, in designs and technique, by Persian Turkoman carpet weavers who came to Pakistan during the reign of Akbar the Great in 1955.
The Pakistani carpets they are recognized by the variety and gloss of the colors, the repetition of the characteristic pattern of Bukhara, and their oujya.
Entire villages with one or more looms in each house maintain carpet weaving at a cottage industry level.
Lahore and Karachi are the largest centers of tapestry which have a tradition of tribal single woven designs of Turkoman and Caucasian style and double woven Mongolian style.
Pakistani weavers have emerged as extremely inventive creators, renewing their subject matter with new designs, but also maintaining the designs of traditional handmade carpets.
Handwoven carpets today are among Pakistan's top exports and their production is the 2nd largest form of domestic productivity.
