BOUCHARA
The art of weaving developed in the region of Pakistan at a time when few other cultures used it. The history of handmade carpets begins in the 12th century, by immigrant Muslim craftsmen who settled in the cities of Lahore and Karachi.
The Pakistani Bukhara is the most famous carpet in the country. Generally, the term "buhara" describes carpets with repetitive patterns. The patterns are usually geometric, with octagonal or oval shapes. It is characteristic that a wide variety of colors are used in Pakistani bouhars, such as black, blue, beige, gold, red and green.
High quality wool and sometimes silk are used in its construction, while the dense knots give a sheen that makes it look full-length. What makes it different is the high density of knots, which makes it just as durable as other rugs, but significantly more economical. The knot used is based on the symmetrical knot, commonly referred to as the "single knot" in Pakistan.
